Are my images uploaded anywhere?

Does cropping reduce the image quality?

No. The pixels you keep are untouched, so the part you keep looks exactly as sharp as the original. The image is simply smaller because you removed area from around it.

How do I crop to an exact square?

Choose the Square preset before you drag. The crop box then keeps a 1:1 shape while you move and resize it, so the result is perfectly square.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes. The crop box responds to touch, and dragging it will not scroll the page, so you can position it accurately with one finger.

What format will the cropped image be?

The same format as the file you added — a PNG stays a PNG, a JPG stays a JPG. That keeps transparency intact for PNG and WebP images.

What is cropping?

Cropping cuts away the outer parts of a picture and keeps the rectangle you choose. Nothing inside that rectangle changes — the remaining pixels are exactly as sharp as they were before.

Because it removes area rather than detail, cropping is a lossless kind of edit in terms of quality, though the resulting image is naturally smaller in both dimensions and file size.

Why crop an image?

The most common reason is fitting a required shape. Profile pictures want a square, stories and reels want a tall frame, video thumbnails want 16:9 — and if you upload the wrong shape, the platform crops it for you, usually badly and right through someone’s face.

The other reason is composition. Cutting out empty space, a distracting background or an accidental thumb at the edge of the frame draws attention to the subject and often improves a photo more than any filter.
