Are my images uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything runs inside your browser on your own device. Your files are never sent to a server, so they stay completely private.

How do I resize without distorting the image?

Leave the aspect-ratio lock ticked and fill in only one dimension. The other is calculated for you, so the proportions stay exactly right.

Can I make a small image bigger?

Yes, up to 200% in percentage mode, but be realistic about the result. Enlarging cannot add detail that was never captured, so the picture will look softer the further you push it.

Does resizing change the file format?

No. Each image keeps its own format — a PNG stays a PNG and a JPG stays a JPG. If you also need a different format, use one of our converters afterwards.

Can I resize many images to the same size?

What does resizing change?

Resizing changes an image’s pixel dimensions — how many dots wide and tall it is. Making it smaller throws away pixels and almost always shrinks the file too; making it larger invents pixels between the ones you have, which is why enlarging a small photo looks soft rather than detailed.

That is different from cropping, which cuts parts of the picture away, and from compressing, which keeps the same dimensions but stores them in fewer bytes.

Why resize your images?

Modern phone cameras produce images four or five thousand pixels wide — far more than any website, profile picture or document needs. Resizing to the size actually required makes files dramatically smaller and pages faster.

Fixed dimensions are also a requirement in plenty of places: passport-style photos, marketplace listings, forum avatars and printed documents all specify exact pixel sizes, and an image that does not match gets rejected or awkwardly cropped.
